Then, of course, there’s another conversation to be had on the complete opposite side of the spectrum, and that’s one about a show that hammers representation into your skull even when you’re begging it to stop. I am, of course, speaking ofThe series seems to have a central thesis of “representation matters,” in which the show plays out a series of scenarios with queer women marveling at other queer women in power . It’s very meta.
I don’t like the TV network or corporate-inspired idea that queer people are “just like” straight people. Sorry, we’re not — our experiences never have been the same, and maybe that’s changing — but those experiences shouldn’t just be erased. We are friends with our exes. We have sex differently. Our community is smaller, and we meet each other differently, relate to each other differently, at times talk or dress or act differently.
