Boys basketball: Highlands rallies from double-digit deficit, tops Sam Houston

“It feels good to get this win tonight,” said Highlands junior Willie Gaskin, who poured in a game-high 41 points for the Owls in the win. “I knew that I was needing to have a big game if we were going to win tonight, and I was able to do that. , we just came out and played harder and played as a team.”
Even after Highlands rallied and had the lead in the fourth quarter, Sam Houston still had a chance to escape with the win. Noah Brinegar made a layup with 2:08 to go to give the Hurricanes a 60-59 lead. After the teams traded possessions, Gaskin was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer and made 2-of-3 free throws to put Highlands ahead 61-60 with 1:08 remaining.
