BIG SUR – The Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council of the Boy Scouts of America is selling Camp Pico Blanco, its storied 368-acre scout camp surrounded by the Ventana Wilderness near Big Sur, at an asking price of $1.8 million.
Camp Pico Blanco has been shuttered since the summer of 2016 when it was evacuated due to the Soberanes Fire. The camp was saved by firefighters – the third time it had been saved from wildfires including the 1977 Marble Cone and the 2008 Basin Complex fires. Tarbox explained that the Silicon Valley Monterey Bay Council of the Boy Scouts has created a partnership committee with the Big Sur Land Trust and others over the past two years gathering input on how best to proceed. The group decided that the best path would be to find a community partner to sell to who would prioritize stewardship of the land, have a potential for scouts to use the land in the future at some level and provide the seller with some financial gain.
Before Hearst, the land had been inhabited for about 3,000 years by Native Americans including the Rumsen who occupied the area from Carmel through Palo Colorado Canyon and into the Little Sur area. From there, the Esselen inhabited the region south toward what is now Lucia, according to the Monterey County Historical Commission.

Review: Yes, ‘Ambulance’ is stupid — but oh boy, is it funMichael Bay's “Ambulance” is a bifurcated mess that can’t decide what kind of movie it wants to be and so chooses instead to be several movies at once. Yet in spite of (or perhaps because of) its myriad flaws, it’s impossible to resist the film’s siren song. FOX film critic Allison Shoemaker reviews the action expert's latest.
