But the historic track will meet its end Saturday night.The Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite is where history and horsepower collide to kick up a cloud of dirt beneath the wheels of racing legends in the making.The World of Outlaws Sprint Series takes its final checkered flag at the racetrack Saturday night after 88 races and 45 years at the track.
“Back in the ‘80s, we had to borrow $200 from one of my friends up in concessions to make sure we could pay out the purse,” Edwards said. “Momma and daddy didn’t bring enough money with them. We didn’t want to write the check because we knew we didn’t have it.”It’s a track where racing legends like Bobby Allen and NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon have dueled. Everyone who’s someone in southern autosport has at some point come through Devil’s Bowl, Edwards said.
