Not only did Georgia repeat as the top team in the 32nd annual Times-Union college football power rankings, but the SEC is king 14 of last 16 years.
Rounding out the top-10 were Alabama , Penn State , Tulane and Washington . Tulane, the American Athletic Conference champion, improved from 2-10 last year to 13-1 and also made the largest jump in T-U power ranking history by moving up 97 spots from No. 106 to No. 9.
Nothing changed atop the conference rankings as the SEC achieved an average ranking of +13.07, winning by a fairly comfortable margin over the Pac-12 at +4.25, followed by the Big 12 , Big Ten and ACC . The AAC had the highest ranking of the non-Power 5 leagues at –44.81, which edged out the Sun Belt at 45.35, then the MAC , Mountain West and Conference USA .
One of the big separators for the SEC was its 10-6 record against non-conference top-25 teams. The record for the other Power 5 conferences in that scenario was a combined 7-27.
