Like a lot of people in this city, the Cardinals came here hoping to strike it rich.
Just when it looked like they were about to lose their shirts and yes, perhaps even any hopes of making it to the playoffs, they hit the jackpot with a furious rally toCornerback Byron Murphy Jr. saved the day, picking up a Hunter Renfrow fumble caused by Isaiah Simmons, and returning it 59 yards for the game-winning touchdown with 3:51 left in the extra period of play.
Arizona trailed 20-0 at halftime and looked absolutely miserable in doing so. The first half was a repeat performance of last week’s season-opening 44-21 stinker against the Chiefs, when nothing the Cardinals tried on offense seemed to work, and nothing they did on defense was enough to stop your grandma.
But something clicked. What came next was a dizzying series of events that mostly favored the Cardinals and brought about the question — just who is this team really? He engineered an 11-play, 79-yard drive capped by a 5-yard touchdown throw to Greg Dortch to get the comeback going. Even after Raiders kicker Daniel Carlson extended Las Vegas’ lead to 23-7 with his third field goal of the day near the end of the third quarter, it wasn’t over.
