The Capitol Hill row house was swarmed by armed police, and streets were closed until 12:30 p.m., after which it was determined that there was neither a shooting nor any other threat, according to a report. Police said there was a person who claimed to be armed and having a mental breakdown, and they also said they had received reports of a shooting in the 200 block of A Street NE, the report noted.Authorities now believe that Friday's actions were the result of someone"swatting" 68-year-old Bannon.
Swatting refers to the act of calling in a false report of an emergency or crisis in order to prompt police to descend on an individual or address, the report noted. It was later determined that the emergency call that led to the heavy response did not come from the Bannon residence."The police were terrific," Bannon said following the incident.
