We've driven the new £44,995 Honda e:Ny1 electric car: 'Honda appreciates that the MG ZS EV is cheaper and will go further,' notes mscullion2. 'But the e:Ny1 is aimed at people looking to test the waters with an EV with a brand they know' ⚡️🔋

‘It’s not just an electrified HR-V.’ Honda’s technical consultant , Kotaro Yamamoto’s opening gambit certainly managed to pre-empt my first question about the confusingly named and styled Honda e:Ny1.Confused? You should be. It’s longer than the HR-V and sits on an entirely different platform. It’s the first car to use Honda’s new e:N platform, which will be used by 30 new electric vehicles by 2030.

There are two trim levels to choose from, Elegance and Advance. Elegance, reflected by the relatively high starting price of £44,995, gets loads of kit. Expect to find an enormous 15.1-inch infotainment screen, wireless charging, heated front seats and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Around £2,000 more gets you Advance, with a panoramic sunroof, heated steering wheel and autonomous parking. It’s a bit like a Civic in here, only with that enormous portrait infotainment screen.

The Honda e:Ny1’s boot, at 361 litres, is a touch disappointing. It’s much smaller than the Toyota BZ4x and MG ZS EV, but at least it’s flat and there’s underfloor storage for the charging cables. The WLTP finger-in-the-air machine predicts the official range to be 256 miles, while the battery’s maximum charge speed of 78kw means charging time from 10-80% takes around 45 minutes on a rapid charger, or around six hours on an 11kw jobbie.

It feels quicker than the 0-62mph time of 7.6 seconds suggests. It’s oddly hesitant off the line but there’s great pull above 20mph or so. This is a valid argument if you take away any nuance. Head of Automobiles for Honda UK, Rebecca Adamson, said: ‘While we cannot compete with Chinese manufacturers on price, we have 75 years of engineering experience.’

Women's World Cup 2023: How to watch the England vs. Denmark gameWomen's World Cup 2023: How to watch the England vs. Denmark gameSoccer fans, set your alarms, because Team USA aren't the only ones to keep your eyes on as we approach the World Cup Round of 16. Friday morning, England and Denmark will face off on the field. The two Group D teams head into the match fresh off of 1-0 wins, making both England and Denmark's chances at advancing to the Round of 16 about even, further amping up the buzz around this big game. This year's World Cup is being co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, which unfortunately means many matches are beset with an awkward time difference, scheduled for the middle of the night or early morning for American audiences. And the England vs. Denmark game is no exception — kick-off is scheduled for 4:30 a.m. ET. So you might want to get the coffee brewing now...
