Construction on the Fayette County plant is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024 and is expected to create 2,200 new jobs, thanks to an overall $3.5 billion investment.
The proposed expansion, which still needs final government approval, includes a new electric-vehicle battery plant in Fayette County, about 40 miles southwest of Columbus, run jointly by Honda and LG Energy Solution. The proposed plant, which is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2024, is expected to create 2,200 new jobs thanks to an overall $3.5 billion investment, according to a release from Gov. Mike DeWine’s office.
In addition, Honda announced it will spend an additional $700 million to transform its existing plants in Marysville, East Liberty and Anna to build electric-vehicle parts, company officials announced Tuesday. JobsOhio also plans to provide financial assistance for both the new Fayette County plant and the revamp of Honda’s three existing Ohio factories, said Matt Englehart, a spokesman for the state’s economic development nonprofit, which is funded through profits from running the state’s liquor monopoly. However, Englehart said, JobsOhio won’t publicly release details about the assistance it will offer until a final agreement is in place.
