Some lawmakers said the legislation is coming too late for those who have already filed their state income taxes for 2021. Unless the bill passes, the federal benefits will require families to pay more in state income taxes. Rep. Arnold Mooney, R-Birmingham, said the Legislature should have passed the bill during the special session on ARPA funding in January.
