Authorities say Patrick Jackson killed a woman in a dispute over an AR-15 rifle.
A Houston gang member was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison Friday after he killed a 19-year-old woman and tried to stage the crime to look like a drive-by shooting, authorities said.
“This gang member took a teenage girl to a quiet neighborhood by promising to release her to her friends and gunned her down in cold blood to make it look like a drive-by shooting,” Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg said in a statement. “Only a monster could go through with that level of calculated planning and premeditation.”
The district attorney's office said the defendant, Patrick Jackson, 30, is a member of the Vice Lords street gang. Court records show he was convicted Friday in connection with the death of Maria Fuentes, 19, whose body was found in east Houston’s Pine Trails subdivision on Aug. 31, 2019. Authorities say Jackson killed Fuentes in a dispute over an AR-15 rifle that belonged to one of Fuentes' former roommates. A message left with Jackson's defense lawyer Saturday wasn't returned.
Another man, Oshey Demond Petters, 28, was also accused of killing Fuentes and faces a murder charge. His case is pending.
