FORT WORTH — The University of Houston defeated Tulane 65-57 in the quarterfinal round of the American Athletic Conference women's basketball tournament Tuesday night at Dickies Arena.

The sixth-seeded Cougars advanced to the semifinals against No. 2 South Florida at 6 p.m. Central on Wednesday. Up 30-27 at halftime, UH opened the second half with a 16-3 run. Third-seeded Tulane later cut the lead to two points but got no closer as the Cougars pulled away. UH's Laila Blair had a game-high 23 points while teammates Tiara Young and Britney Onyeje added 18 and 10, respectively.
