After a worrisome Game 3 result, Astros hitters focused on grinding out at-bats and it...

Houston Astros Alex Bregman hits a 2-RBI double off Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jose Alvarado in the fifth inning during Game 4 of the World Series at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday, Nov. 2, 2022, in Philadelphia.PHILADELPHIA — The Astros hadn’t scratched across a run in 16 innings. The last time they scored was when Alex Bregman homered off Zach Wheeler in the middle of Game 2 of the World Series. Then, nearly 96 hours later, the dam finally broke.

The onslaught didn't come in the form of home runs, instead it was the result of what Astros call"grinding out at-bats." They put up all five of their runs in a 5-0 Game 4 win in the fifth inning that was the result of four singles, a double, a hit-by-pitch and a sacrifice fly. After a putrid performance in a 7-0 loss Tuesday, several Astros hitters said the goal when they returned to Citizens Bank Park was to make sure they put together better and more focused at-bats."We were fine," Tucker said about returning to the ballpark after getting shut out a day earlier."We know what we’ve got to do. We’ve just got to grind through at-bats and make their pitchers work. Hit pitches over the plate and lay off what they’re trying to make us hit.
