Hochul’s office told me, “The governor has been clear that she believes Judge LaSalle’s record has been mischaracterized.”In a bitter twist, some of the women’s groups that oppose LaSalle’s confirmation played an outsize role in getting Hochul elected just two months ago, and they include some of her very earliest endorsers.
It’s not the first time she has nominated someone for a consequential post that has called into question her commitment to due diligence. In August 2021, she named Brian Benjamin lieutenant governor, her second-in-command. He lasted not even nine months, resigning after federal prosecutors in Manhattan
