Avatar's floating Hallelujah Mountains do make sense, although director James Cameron's blockbuster doesn't go out of its way to explain them.
While viewers might not recall Avatar explicitly addressing Pandora’s floating rock formations, the Hallelujah Mountains are explained via a bit of behind-the-scenes science. The world of the Avatar movies is so immersive that some viewers have complained about feeling depressed after watching director James Cameron’s epic blockbusters.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT However, while the Avatar movies might look extremely real, that doesn’t mean that viewers know everything about Pandora. In fact, Avatar: The Way of Water omits some major details like how big the human colonization effort on the planet is, since this approach makes it easier for the series to set up future twists.
Unobtainium Explains How The Hallelujah Mountains Can Float The Hallelujah Mountains are mountain islands that float above the surface of Pandora. Since Unobtanium is magnetic and the mountains are filled with this valuable resource, the area around the Hallelujah Mountains has a geomagnetic “flux" that repels the Unobtainium inside the mountains, thus elevating them.
This same flux is what makes the Hallelujah Mountains the perfect hiding spot since entering the flux disrupts human electrical equipment. This makes sensors go blind, rendering navigation impossible, which the Na’vi clans take advantage of in both the original Avatar and Avatar: The Way of Water.
Why The Hallelujah Mountains Are The Perfect Hiding Place The equipment-scrambling magnetic flux of the Hallelujah Mountains alone makes them a perfect hiding place, but that is not the only thing that renders them helpful to the Na’vi. The Na’vi’s military technology isn’t as advanced as the weapons of Avatar: The Way of Water’s villains, which means the element of surprise is invaluable for their guerrilla warfare.
