According to SheHulkAttorneyAtLaw VFX supervisor Shannon Justison, She-Hulk's fight with Daredevil required a big change due to the need to keep Daredevil's suit a secret.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law Production VFX Supervisor Shannon Justison explains how Marvel's secrecy surrounding Daredevil resulted in some fairly major changes to the hero's fight with Jennifer Walters. The most recent MCU show to land on Disney+, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, follows Tatiana Maslany as Walters, a lawyer attempting to balance her career with her newfound ability to turn into a hulk.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY In a recent interview with Art of VFX, Justison, who works as a production VFX supervisor at digital effects company The Third Floor, reveals that maintaining the secrecy surrounding Daredevil's return in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law impacted the character's fight scene with Walters. According to Justison, Cox is mostly CG in the fight scene due to the need to keep things under wraps.
"It’s probably not invisible to other VFX professionals, but most of the She-Hulk vs Daredevil fight in episode 8 is CG. This was largely due to the secrecy around Daredevil—we weren’t allowed to bring his costume out on location, so we were only able to shoot clean plates and the stunt-driving shots at the garage. We scanned the heck out of that garage knowing we’d have to rebuild it digitally. Then there was only a single day to shoot Charlie’s close-ups on blue.
While some fans have already decried this reimagining of Cox's hero, recent photos of the actor training with an MMA fighter suggest that Daredevil: Born Again will still maintain some of what made the original Netflix show so beloved. Currently, very little is known about the upcoming reboot show, but Vincent D'Onofrio is expected to reprise his role as Kingpin after last appearing in last winter's Hawkeye.
The latest MCU Disney+ show was evidently not a hit with all Marvel fans, but it did show off an interesting new side to Cox's hero. It remains to be seen what the tone of Daredevil: Born Again will be, but it seems likely that it will fall somewhere between She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and the character's original show on Netflix. With Daredevil's upcoming appearance not being kept as a secret, it's also possible that the reboot will feature fewer all-CGI versions of the character.
