Peter Pluim is the President of SAP’s Enterprise Cloud Services & SAP Sovereign Cloud Services businesses, which include private managed cloud deployment options for RISE with SAP and full SAP ERP value-adding SAP Cloud Application Services as well as Sovereign Cloud Services.

This clean core strategy includes standardizing ERP business processes and underlying operations by phasing out custom code, outdated legacy systems and overly complex IT infrastructures.

Although these systems and infrastructures can’t be packed into boxes and sent off to donation as easily as old bed linens or university hoodies, the payoff is immense. A report by the IDC found that ERP system users valued speed, agility, ability to scale, and easy integrations the most when envisioning the perfect ERP.The report confirms that adopting a clean core contributes towards this vision of the perfect ERP.

Eric van Rossum, Chief Marketing & Solutions Officer for SAP S/4HANA, explains in ERP Today that platforms with low-code and no-code capabilities are impactful for both innovation through custom extensions and clean core maintenance.
