How to stop feeling pressured into doing things you already said you wouldn't.
In business, and in life, there are times in which we need to learn how to compromise, and then there are times in which we need to stand firm in our decisions.
When we turn down an invitation or pass on an opportunity, it can stress us out to find that the other person does not respect our decision and instead wants to press the issue further. It’s how we respond in these moments that either reinforces our ability to set boundaries for ourselves or makes us feel pressured into changing our position.
You can start by identifying the boundaries that are important to you by evaluating the areas of your life that are under the most stress. For example, you may need to set a boundary for how much time you’re willing to spend on work, what projects you’re willing to take on, or how often you’re going to go out with friends.
It’s about both honoring that as well as what you need to feel comfortable, healthy, and happy long-term. The two are not mutually exclusive.
