How to recruit and hire people with disabilities, one of the most overlooked talent pools in the US

, are three major, overlooked talent pools that employers could benefit from hiring in 2022, Daniel Zhao, a senior economist at Glassdoor, said.

"It really needs to be that consideration of the full cycle of how does somebody first engage with you as an employer," she said,"all the way to what are the full aspects of their experience — from the recruitment stage to the hiring stage to the promotion stage. What does it take to successfully retain and grow your talent pool of employees with disabilities?"Before creating an accessible workplace, employers need to create an accessible application process.

For example, the recruitment stage requires most people to submit résumés. But Basile said people with disabilities may have gaps for a disability that took them out of work for a few years. Tad Asbury, the executive director of Bridges From School to Work, a nonprofit that connects young adults with disabilities to job opportunities, recommended companies do away with jargon-laden language on job postings and requiring follow-up personality assessments."Building accessibility and improving the inclusive hiring process is not only a compliance issue," Basile said."It's smart business, and it's the right thing to do.
