Yun-Fang Juan is a former founder and prolific seed investor who's bet on companies like Reddit.Seed 30: The best early-stage women investors of 2023Juan was an early employee of Facebook, and founded Fundastic, a small business financial-planning startup, in 2013. Investors were made whole when the startup was acquired by Nav in 2015, but the windfall wasn't massive. Juan told Insider that the experience granted her a newfound respect for the trial by fire many founders undergo.
Juan was ranked No. 9 on Insider's 2023 Seed 30 list of the top female seed investors — the biggest jump in the ranking of any investor on this list from last year. Juan's blunt honesty is a rare trait in the VC industry — and it isn't the only thing unusual about her approach. "I did a couple of edtech deals that were not really venture-fundable but I saw the potential impact beyond financial returns," she wrote in an email."Those deals won't be suitable for a proper fund," she continued,"but my angel fund can do it because we don't have" the mandate of returning three times the original capital provided by limited partners in 10 years.
