Over 600 third-grade students got a visit from HudsonAlpha scientists on Tuesday for National DNA Day, which is celebrated every year on April 23 in honor of the discovery of DNA’s double helix on this day in 1953.
Experts from the nonprofit organization showed students how to extract DNA from a strawberry to celebrate the discovery of DNA's double helix in 1953.
DOTHAN, Ala. - Dothan City School students got hands on learning experience focused on the importance of DNA. At the end of the experiment, students saw the DNA floating on top of the strawberry mixture.Experts from HudsonAlpha say instilling a love for science in the next generation is a top priority for them.
“We need scientists and we are going to need even more scientists tomorrow. HudsonAlpha education specifically is our goal is to excite students, to equip them with the knowledge and the skills and the confidence to be that workforce of tomorrow, to make those discoveries we can’t even dream about,” Kelly East, the vice president for educational outreach at HudsonAlpha, said.and receive the latest local news and weather straight to your email every morning.
