The whistleblower, who claims to be a career IRS criminal supervisory special agent, made the claims in a letter sent by his lawyers to the heads of several House and Senate committees on Wednesday. In the letter, lawyers say the unnamed IRS official is seeking whistleblower protections. The White House has long maintained independence from the investigation of Hunter Biden, which has been handled by U.S. Attorney David Weiss, a Trump appointee, since 2021.
