Husband, 38, found guilty in 2018 slayings of estranged wife, sister-in-law in Escondido [Breaking]
A 38-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing his estranged wife and her sister in their Escondido apartment as his young children slept nearby was found guilty of murder and other charges Wednesday.
Inside the back of the SUV, firefighters found the body of Ana Soto. Detectives then went to the apartment Soto shared with her sister on West 11th Avenue near Centre City Parkway. There, they found Veronica Soto Ortega dead in the living room.The Ortega couple’s two daughters — ages 4 and 5 — were asleep inside a bedroom steps from their mother’s body. Juan Ortega was arrested later that day.
Dang said that not long after midnight Aug. 9, 2018, Ortega left his car at a Park & Ride at the edge of San Marcos and walked about three miles to the central Escondido apartment he had once shared with his family. She said he brought a gun, a knife and a socket wrench.
