The rising electric costs compound an already difficult situation for some customers that was brought on by the pandemic. “We had suspended disconnects for an entire year and, although we encouraged those who could pay to make some amount of payment on bills, a large number of customers fell behind,” Patmon said.Patmon said that the biggest reason for the surge in electricity costs is the record-breaking heat San Antonio and much of Texas have experienced in recent months.during a June heat wave that saw temperatures well over 100 degrees in many parts of the state.

Additional factors that have led to higher prices include the invasion of Ukraine and weather-related disruptions from the 2021 February freeze.
