When life gets unmanageable, I play The Sims.
, and you can, more or less, make anyone love you with enough time and positive mood boosters. During some sessions, I’ll avoid cheats entirely and find pleasure in constantly satisfying needs. Watching those little bars for hunger, sleep, and social needs fill up over time is a meditative experience, the small joy of cause and effect. Things happen because you make them happen, and there are direct pathways to survival and getting what you want.
Instead, it’s a way of living and creating when creating things and living with existential anxiety feels impossible. It’s also just extremely fun.
