Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts insists Thursday's game against his hometown Houston Texans is just another business trip.

Now he is a poised veteran who is evolving from reserve quarterback to dependable dual threat with two dynamic receivers available on the outside, and his father’s Falcons are on the verge of claiming the first district title in school history Friday. Father and son both maintain they are focused on opponents, not each other.
Jalen’s exploits still echo 35 miles west of the NFL stage inside Channelview’s concrete stadium. While he grew up in East Houston, he followed his brother, also Averion, one exit down the freeway beyond the city’s limits to Channelview, which Averion Sr. describes as “an unannexed community” in Houston’s sprawl. In seventh grade, Tre’Michael Tutt took note of Jalen’s transfer immediately. Tutt planned to play quarterback for the Falcons, but Jalen told him he needed to be a wideout.
Comfort came as Jalen took snaps in the shotgun on Sheldon Avenue. He was an old soul who relished two-piece Tuesdays at Popeye’s and ate with Tutt at Wingstop on Wallisville Avenue after games on Friday nights. They listened to the Isley Brothers and Keith Sweat and eyed new benchmarks as Hurts, a powerlifter, set the standard in the new field house.
