Second Chance's youth garden allows teens to learn how to garden and eat healthily while also preparing them to enter the workforce.
is celebrating its 30th year providing people in some of San Diego’s underserved areas with job readiness training and other supportive services.gives young people aged 14 to 21, primarily from southeastern San Diego, the chance to put that training into practice.
Not only do the teens learn horticulture, they also get the chance to gain the tools they will need to enter the workforce when they sell their crops at a farmstand open every Thursday at their Encanto garden. He said that data collected from garden interns after they’ve completed the program shows 96 percent know what employers expect from an employee and feel confident they could meet those expectations.
