The water level at Eagle has risen eight feet since Thursday morning. The warning is in effect until at least noon on Sunday.
EAGLE, Alaska - Rising waters on the Yukon River near Eagle has prompted a flood warning to be issued until 12 p.m. Sunday.
At 4 p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service’s River Watch flight team reported an ice jam on the Yukon River near Eagle with two large sheets of ice jammed at Eagle Bluff. This is impounding water upstream of the ice jam and is causing rapid river rises upstream at Eagle. Water levels at Eagle have risen 8 ft since Thursday morning. Water has already inundated Mission Road at the old Eagle Village site, according to the National Weather Service .
Another large ice jam is causing major flooding at the mouth of the Fortymile River in Canada’s Yukon Territory. When the jam releases, it is expected to send an additional surge of water downstream towards Eagle. Those living near or along the Yukon at Eagle are advised to stay alert, be prepared to take action, and listen to the instructions from local emergency managers and village safety officers.
