The California WIC Association says the state has funding to last until Nov. 20 for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.

The White House has been warning that if there’s a shutdown, recipients will start being turned away at grocery store counters.Diaz said even if there is a shutdown, WIC recipients should keep going to their appointments, “because California WIC will not be shutting down immediately.” However, she said one benefit is going to be instantly impacted in California. “The fruit and vegetable benefit for participants is going to go down. Rather than the $25 to $49 per month for fruits and vegetables that they're used to, it's now gonna show between $10 and $12 per month,” Diaz said.
