IKEA is using an artificial intelligence system to help decide what to do with returned sofas and bed frames as the company tries to reduce waste

The flat-pack furniture giant said it recently rolled out the software platform to 50 of its U.S. locations. Developed by Optoro Inc., a logistics software company in which IKEA recently invested, the system uses AI to recommend the most profitable destination for a return, such as putting it back in stock or selling it to a third-party wholesaler at a discount.
