The Contra Costa Fire Protection District said its heightened fire season lasted 187 days.

The rain from a pair of storms that moved through the Bay Area earlier this month brought the desired effect for firefighters in Contra Costa County: Fire season is over.

Those rains, which soaked the Bay Area with more than an inch of rain in most places, helped to secure the decision for officials, district spokesman Steve Hill said. A week earlier, a smaller storm also left measurable amounts of rain.
