Lake Tahoe's winter traffic can back up for hours, but area ski resorts say they're trying to help.

Other visitors, expectedly, were not as supportive.

"We restrict the amount of lift tickets and season passes that we sell to ensure we don't overcrowd the resort," says Jon Slaughter, Sugar Bowl Resort's executive director of marketing and sales."By doing this, we don't really have traffic issues getting to the resort." At Diamond Peak Ski Resort in Incline Village, traffic backups are also rare, says Paul Raymore, the resort's marketing manager. He credits that to the resort's weekend ski shuttles: a local shuttle that stops at 13 locations throughout Incline Village, and a second shuttle exclusively for visitors staying at Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe. But he also knows Diamond Peak has less demand.

In advance of the 2022-2023 season, Vail Resorts sold 2.3 million Epic Passes, valid at all Vail-owned properties, including Heavenly, Northstar and Kirkwood; it's a 55% increase over the past three years.
