University Heights Mayor Michael Dylan Brennan, in a show of support for Israel as it's been attacked by terrorists, has raised the Israeli flag at city hall. Also, a Chick-fil-A restaurant at the current site of the Waterstone Medical Building on Cedar Road may again be a possibility.

“We have residents who were there when this attack happened and are there right now whose safety is of great concern. May they all be delivered safely from harm. “No one may engage in terrorism. No one may engage in atrocities or attacks calculated to kill civilians rather than focus on strictly military targets. The history is long and complicated.

Brennan remodeled the old, second-floor council chambers -- which had not been used to host a council meeting since January, 2019 due to the mayor’s concerns about its accessibility -- to make room for a third office within the room for his assistant for special projects Deanna Bremer Fisher. Already in the former council chamber is the office of Council Clerk Kelly Thomas and her assistant.

“The unilateral decision to demolish council chambers was to make room for a private office for an administrative assistant, without any notification to council or the public,” Sax said during her presentation. “It was as if it was personal property. Council chambers on the second floor of city hall is not personal property, it’s public property. It belongs to the people of University Heights.”

“Notwithstanding these minor conditions, in a U-9 zoning district, restaurant use is a permitted use,” Brennan stated in his mayor’s report. “And while a drive thru is a special use, there is a precedent on this very site for a drive-thru, given the one at Huntington Bank .
