A Twitter account is recapping the classic sci-fi action movie Independence Day in real time in honor of the Fourth of July. Released in 1996, Roland Emmerich’s alien invasion movie ID4 became a massive summer blockbuster, grossing $817 million worldwide.

Independence Day 3 Will Probably Never Happen Though Independence Day was a smash at the box office, Emmerich and company were unable to follow it up by launching a franchise. When ID4 did finally get a sequel in the form of Independence Day: Resurgence, it wasn’t until 2016, and Smith was no longer involved. Down-scaling Independence Day for the small-screen would seem an ill-advised move however, given the spectacle of the original movie and how much the big-screen experience played into its success.
