Google is on the hook for $20 million that it must pay to Indiana as part of a settlement over allegations of deceptive location tracking practices.

Indiana was not part of the 40-state settlement, although Rokita's settlement with Google is intended to align with the 40-state settlement. As part of the settlements, Google is now required to make clear and conspicuous disclosures to users about its location tracking methods, including letting them know if a product is tracking their location even when they’re not using that product.
Rokita’s office decided to file its own lawsuit against the tech giant in Marion County court earlier this year “when negotiations between the company and a coalition of state attorneys general stalled,” Rokita’s office said Thursday. The $20 million is nearly double what Indiana would have received as part of those negotiations, according to the office.
