Protecting vulnerable lands at the coast and fragile estuaries are essential to helping the birds survive.

An extra 200 acre-feet of water will be released downstream every year for the next three years, pumping the ecosystem at San Antonio Bay with much needed fresh water. The first batch of water is scheduled for release sometime this week. It will make its way to the coast by mid-November. Depending on how the birds do for the first three years, the contract could extend longer, protecting the wetlands for the coming decade.
