Bernie Alexia was pronounced dead just after 7 p.m. at Goose Creek Correctional Center, according to the Department of Corrections. Alexia has been in custody since 2002 and was serving a sentence for second-degree murder. Foul play was not suspected, but a statement from the department did not include information about his cause of death, which which will be reviewed by the State Medical Examiner’s Office and Alaska State Troopers.
