Joe Biden’s durability will finally be tested — as will the extent of Bernie Sanders’ surge and the effectiveness of Elizabeth Warren and Pete Buttigieg’s ground games
DES MOINES — .Iowa’s caucuses touch off at 7 p.m. Central on Monday, with results that could reset the primary before it races forward to the next nominating contest, in New Hampshire next week.
Sanders, the progressive populist, has pushed ahead in Iowa, according to the most recent Real Clear Politics polling average, riding new wave of momentum after nearly toppling Hillary Clinton in the state in 2016. At least four candidates — and possibly five — are likely to be viable heading out of the state. And Michael Bloomberg, who is not campaigning in Iowa, will confront them immediately after the first four nominating states. The former New York City mayor climbed to 14 percent support nationally in a Morning Consult poll released on Monday, tying Warren for third.
