Tax filing season begins Monday and the IRS is advising you to file as soon as possible.

A new program being launched by the IRS will require you to scan your face and provide other personal data in order to be able to access to your online tax data. The tax-filing season begins on Monday and officials expect the process to be more challenging for a beleaguered Internal Revenue Service .for 2021, even though they are still processing a backlog of returns from the previous year.

The IRS also spent much of the last two years processing stimulus checks while dealing with office closures and adapting to major changes to the tax code, thus the backlog. "In many areas, we are unable to deliver the amount of service and enforcement that our taxpayers and tax system deserves and needs," Rettig said. "This is frustrating for taxpayers, for IRS employees and for me."

"Filing electronically with direct deposit and avoiding a paper tax return is more important than ever this year," Rettig said. "And we urge extra attention to those who received an Economic Impact Payment or an advance Child Tax Credit last year. People should make sure they report the correct amount on their tax return to avoid delays."
