As Claire and Michael form an unlikely friendship, her frosty demeanor becomes one of the show’s biggest highlights. Their quirky dynamic, cemented by their tarnished relationships, also amps up the show’s broader message: that nobody is immune to grieving and heartbreak, not even the Hermès-wearing 1%.
Sure, the series relies on stereotypes at times. There’s the feisty gay twink at work, Tyler, who is in constant competition with Michael over listings; Billy and Stanley also only seem to exist to serve Michael’s storylines, often lacking the depth and charm that thedoes succeed at is making a mainstream comedy show totally gay, without it being forcibly “woke” or cheesy.
