Gaza received its first deliveries of international humanitarian aid since the Oct. 7 attack on Israel, and a mother and daughter from Illinois were freed by Hamas.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati about “growing concern over rising tensions along Lebanon’s southern border,” according to a readout provided by the State Department.
Blinken emphasized the need to prioritize the interests of the Lebanese people, “who would be affected by Lebanon being drawn into the conflict” between Israel and Hamas, the State Department said. The U.S. has sent additional military assets to the eastern Mediterranean in recent days to deter groups such as Lebanon-based Hezbollah from opening a new battle front with Israel.
