Noam Yehud, an Israeli hostage abducted during the October 7th Hamas attack, was released after a delay caused by Hamas falsely classifying her as a soldier and demanding further prisoner releases.

A recently released video appears to show Israel i hostage Noam Yehud, 29, speaking on January 25th. In the video, Yehud states she is doing well and expresses anticipation for rejoining her family, echoing the sentiment of other hostages recently released under the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas . The footage aligns with the style of videos previously released by Palestinian Islamic Jihad and Hamas following the October 7th, 2023, terror attack on Israel .

Yehud's family has requested that media outlets refrain from broadcasting the video or its images, according to the Times of Israel. The Israeli government anticipated Yehud's release over the weekend alongside other female civilians, however, Hamas opted to free four Israeli Defense Force soldiers first, briefly hindering the deal's implementation. The delay originated from Yehud being held by Palestinian Islamic Jihad, not Hamas, and the terror group falsely classifying her as a soldier, demanding the release of additional Palestinian prisoners in exchange for her freedom. This discrepancy was resolved Sunday evening with Yehud's reclassification as a civilian, according to the Times of Israel. Yehud was abducted alongside her boyfriend, Ariel Cunio, from their Kibbutz Nir Oz home during the Hamas attack. A total of 33 hostages are expected to be released over the coming weeks as part of the agreement's initial phase.
