‘It’s good to see a comeback’: History buffs attend first Texas Toy Soldier Show in three years
was arrayed with miniature battlefields. On one side, an early American militia fired at Native American warriors in a clearing in the woods. On the other, patrol boats policed a stretch of sea off the Vietnam coast as helicopters fired rockets overhead.
“There’s no other show like this in Texas,” said Martin Vasquez, the owner of the historical novelty shop Davy Crockett’s Cabin and a passionate amateur historian himself. Inspecting a soldier, Scott Matty, 60, said he had decided to don the forest-green uniform of the Irish Volunteers because “it just adds more to the authenticity and the enjoyment of the event.”
