The Idol co-creator Reza Fahim has responded to the many negative reviews of his upcoming HBO series. Co-created by Fahim and Euphoria creator Sam Levinson, The Idol follows pop star Jocelyn and her attempt at reclaiming her stardom, alongside her relationship with cult leader Tedros . The Idol received scandalous reactions when episodes 1 and 2 premiered at Cannes Film Festival, with its intense sexual content quickly dividing those in attendance of the premiere.

The creator admits the series is "provocative," but is still excited for people to see the full show, recalling one of the most positive bits of insight shard by a star of the series at the premiere. Look, we made a provocative show. At the end of the day, I can’t wait for people to see the entire piece. Jane Adams said something realty beautiful at our Cannes press conference, that it’s OK to be messy when making art. Why The Idol Is So Controversial The Idol has been the subject of controversy mostly due to claims of excessive nudity in the show, as well as uncomfortable adult scenes. While Levinson's other project, Euphoria, has a lot of sexual content, it seems The Idol will be pushing those boundaries even further. However, the boundaries may have been pushed too far, as The Idol has HBO's worst Rotten Tomatoes score for any series, currently sitting at a 27 percent approval rating from critics.
Whether or not there were issues behind-the-scenes of The Idol, early reviews indicate the show will continue to be controversial when it comes to HBO on June 4. While Fahim seems confident about the final product, critical reception of The Idol episodes 1 and 2 don't bode well for the rest of the series. Time will tell how much more controversy The Idol drums up when it finally begins airing, and whether it affects the similarly taboo Euphoria heading into season 3.
