SB14 would ban transgender health care for children.Texas House Republicans plan to try again on Friday to bar children from accessing transgender health care, setting up a third showdown with Democrats after they thwarted two earlier attempts with procedural delays.
Democrats and LGBTQ rights advocates have labeled the proposal as hateful and discriminatory, and have said it will endanger the mental and physical wellbeing of already-at-risk transgender youth. They say lawmakers should leave these medical decisions to physicians and their patients and patients' families.What would SB14 mean for transgender Texas kids? SB 14 would also require the Texas Medical Board to revoke the licenses of physicians who provide gender-affirming care, and it would prohibit taxpayer funds from being used for that care or from going to any person or entity that “provides or facilitates” the treatment.
