James Gunn explained his unique take on Adam Warlock in GuardiansOfTheGalaxyVol3 '...a bunch of different comic book writers, each one has their own take on Adam. This is our take on Adam...'
During an interview with Screen Rant, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 director James Gunn discussed the film's version of Adam Warlock, and how he plans on doing the character justice. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, debuting next May, has been a long-awaited MCU property since the release of 2017's Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY However, since production on GOTG Vol. 3 wrapped earlier this year, fans have been anticipating the direction this third and final installment will take. What has been confirmed is the presence of Will Poulter as comics fan favorite Adam Warlock, who will reportedly be the main villain the Guardians will have to face in the upcoming sequel. Gunn has been hinting at the arrival of the overpowered Warlock since the very end of Vol.
"I think, like all of the Guardians, he has a very specific personality. When you have a character like Adam, who has been written by a bunch of different comic book writers, each one has their own take on Adam. This is our take on Adam, and I think he's a pretty spectacular character." The interview came after Saturday night's Marvel Hall H panel at Comic-Con, which included a small GOTG showcase including a trailer reveal for Vol. 3. Though the Guardians 3 trailer has yet to debut online, Gunn's comments on the huge, emotional tone of the film, right down to the use of"Do You Realize" by the Flaming Lips in the trailer, struck a chord with fans.
Gunn's insistence on getting Adam Warlock right speaks to his recent adaptation track record, especially his way of bringing the intimidating DC entity Starro to the screen in The Suicide Squad. It also speaks to his background as a comic book fan and genre filmmaker as well as a trusted MCU filmmaker. Gunn's attention to detail and emphasis on heart over violence has made the first two GOTG films favorites of MCU fans.
