The feature film is slated to debut on Netflix later this year
The film — which McKay also wrote — follows two astronomers who set out on a media tour to warn the public that a meteor will destroy Earth in just six months.
“I’m so thrilled to make this movie with Jen Lawrence,” McKay said in a statement. “She’s what folks in the 17th century used to call ‘a dynamite act.’ And the fact that Netflix sees this movie as a worldwide comedy sets the bar high for me and my team in an exciting and motivating way.”McKay will produce the feature under his label, Hyperobject, with partner Kevin Messick. Production for the film is expected to begin in April.
