Hernandez all but wraps up riding title with four winner's on Labor Day card
Juan Hernandez rode four winners Monday to literally clinch the jockey championship for Del Mar’s summer meeting.
Five-time Del Mar riding champion Flavien Prat is returning to Del Mar to ride. He is named on horses on Friday, but he’s listed as having one mount at Kentucky Downs on Saturday in a $1 million race. Prat stopped by last Saturday and rode four winners, including Flightline’s brilliant, 19¼-length victory in the $1 million Pacific Classic and two Grade II stakes wins aboard Gold Phoenix and Hong Kong Harry .
Chismosa held a six-length lead in the stretch, then held off the late charge of Uncontrollable to win the $125,000 Generous Portion Stakes — a six-furlong dirt test for 2-year-old, Cal-bred fillies by 1¾ lengths. Edgar Payeras rode Chismosa to a third straight win this meeting for trainer Rafael DeLeon.
Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith ran down favorite Samurai Charm strides from the finish to win the $100,000 Tranquility Lakes Stakes on Teddy’s Barino . Samurai Charm almost led the one-mile race for older fillies and mares from wire-to-wire.
