But the chatter among South Carolina Democrats heading into Saturday’s primary is painting a different picture: This year’s contest could actually be whiter than any statewide primary in more than a decade.
“I think it will probably be closer to 55% black, not 65,” saida state representative and former South Carolina Democratic Party chair supporting Biden.in South Carolina’s first Congressional District in 2018, said he’s expecting white turnout to be even higher, split roughly 50/50 between black and white voters. “If two thirds of the Democratic electorate here is black this time, I should stop what I’m doing,” Jones told me. “I do not see that happening on Saturday.
