John Bennett is running for seat Q in the Alaska State Senate.
He said he filed to run 15 minutes before the deadline because there wasn’t anybody he wanted to vote for on the ballot. “I talk to my kids and friends, and people have lost faith in voting and in government in general, and I hope to restore that,” Bennett said, adding, “All around the state we have districts where there’s essentially one candidate. There’s no competitors and there’s no opposition, and that’s just not a functioning democracy.
Bennett said we need to end the gridlock in Juneau. “We keep sending the same people and expect different results. It’s not working. We keep pushing the different issues down the line and nothing gets solved.” “We send politicians to Juneau who hate government and they do anything they can to stay in power, but they say they’re going to improve government and they actually hurt it and spend more money doing it,” he went on to say.
He said it’s time for him to bring his work experience to use in Juneau. “I’m an honest guy, and I can’t be bought. I’ve lived here for 48 years. I care about Alaska. My kids live up here, and hopefully my grandkids will live up here.” Bennett is running against Incumbent Robb Myers and Arthur Serkov in the primary election on August 16.
